Green Vehicles
To effectively reduce the waste gas pollution from diesel vehicles, vehicles with several kinds of clean alternative fuel
engines have been successfully researched and developed. The Environmental Protection Administration also established
a scheme to subsidize local governments for introducing different types of vehicles listed below for test running in order to
evaluate their effects and possibility with respect to the mass transportation system:
It uses compressed natural gas (CNG) as
fuel to substitute for the diesel oil
for the traditional diesel engine.
Advantage:
It emits only CO2 and H2O after combustion, so it
is able to reduce HC and NOx pollution
effectively.
Shortcoming:
(1) There must be a
big space for a vehicle to accommodate
the cumbersome CNG tank.
It is not suitable for small vehicle.
(2) Special CNG
filling stations must be installed, so
it is not easy to promote widely.
It replaces the traditional diesel engines
with the battery-driven motors.
Advantage:
(1) Cleanliness: No problem of waste gas emission.
(2) Quietness: Low noise and vibration.
(3) Convenience: The threshold for establishing charging stations is far lower than that for
establishing CNG filling stations.
Shortcoming:
(1) Insufficient
battery life: The battery technology
still needs breakthrough and
improvement.
(2) Long charging
time: It needs to develop and introduce
the quick charging system continuously.
(3) ts power
performance is not as good as that of a
diesel engine and a CNG engine.
This bus combines two power systems
(which can be diesel engine + CNG,
diesel engine +
electric power system,
etc.)
Advantage:
Both power
systems are switchable to cope with
different driving conditions or increase
the driving distance.
Shortcoming:
(1) It requires higher
technical standard and thus increases
the cost (due to the use of the two
power
systems).
(2) It still must be
used together with the diesel engine or
diesel generator, so it can produce only
limited effects in reducing the waste
gas pollution
Environmental Protection Benefits:
(1) Reduce the emission of traditional air pollutants (CO, Nox, HC, …)
(2) Eliminate CO2 emission and reduce the greenhouse effect.
(3) Replace the ole diesel bus of high-pollution gradually.
Energy Saving Benefits:
(1) Raise energy efficiency.
(2) Promote multi-utilization of energy
(3) Reduce the dependency on petrochemical fuels
Industrial & Economic Benefits:
(1) The government provides preferential tax incentive measures
(2) The industry can promote its industrial technology and development
